Ditch the Junk
Your devices, your inbox, your digital life — it’s all got clutter. Let’s get rid of the bloat and keep what works. This isn’t minimalism. It’s mission readiness.
🧹 Clear Out the Clutter
1. Declutter Your Desktop (Windows & Mac)
- Windows: Right-click your desktop > View > uncheck Show desktop icons temporarily
- Then go to
C:\Users\[YourName]\Desktopand manually sort or delete the junk - Mac: Right-click desktop > Use Stacks to auto-organize by type
Tip: Create one “To Review” folder. Move all junk there and clean it weekly.
2. Uninstall Crapware
- Windows: Settings > Apps > Installed apps – filter by “Install date” or “Size”
- Mac: Drag unused apps from Applications into the trash. Or use AppCleaner to remove hidden files.
Look for: manufacturer bloatware (HP Smart, Dell Update), toolbars, preinstalled games, or software trials.
3. Inbox Detox
- Search your inbox for:
unsubscribe - Use Unroll.Me or Clean Email to bulk unsubscribe and delete
- Create filters to auto-label or archive unimportant senders
Result: Less noise, fewer distractions, and faster focus.
🗑️ Smart Deletion: What to Nuke
4. Cache & Cookies (The Safe Way)
- Use your browser’s built-in cleaner but avoid clearing passwords
- Chrome:
Ctrl + Shift + Delete> Time range: Last 4 weeks - Clear cache and cookies, leave passwords checked OFF
Bonus: Use browser extensions like Click&Clean to automate this weekly.
5. Dump Downloads
- Go to your Downloads folder and sort by date or size
- Delete installers, PDFs you’ve already read, random junk
- Back up anything important and get it out of there
Tip: Set your browser to ask where to save files — keeps junk from building up.
6. Remove Browser Extensions You Don’t Use
- Chrome: Go to
chrome://extensions/ - Remove anything you don’t recognize or actively use
- Red flags: toolbars, coupon popups, extensions with generic names
Less is more: Every extension you ditch makes your browser faster and safer.
